In-Kind (Non-Cash) Gifts & Receipts

Record donated goods, stock, or vehicles and print proper acknowledgment letters.

When a member donates something other than cash — stock, a vehicle, furniture, equipment — that's an in-kind gift. SteepleOS records it and prints a compliant acknowledgment.

Recording an In-Kind Gift

  1. Go to Finance > In-Kind Gifts.
  2. Click Record Gift.
  3. Enter the donor's name, a description of what was given ("10 shares of Acme stock", "2015 Honda Odyssey"), the date received, and optionally a fund and an estimated value.
  4. If the donor received something in return (a "quid pro quo" gift), check that box and note what they received.

Printing the Acknowledgment

Click the receipt icon on any gift to print a donor acknowledgment letter. It includes your church name, the gift description, and the required IRS language:

  • "No goods or services were provided in exchange for this contribution" (or the quid-pro-quo details if applicable).
  • A note that the donor is responsible for determining fair market value — your church does not assign a dollar value.
  • A reminder that gifts over $5,000 generally require a qualified appraisal (IRS Form 8283).

Use Mark Sent to track which acknowledgments you've delivered.
